| 20-02-2009 NUTS @ the Siege of Limerick
Speaking of Limerick, the NUTS squad (Elgin, Fred, Hilco, Jesse/Sugar, Job, Just, Lisa, Katie, Michiel, Padraig, Rogier and Wayne) went to Limerick, Ireland to compete in the Siege of Limerick. To get an idea, think 20 teams, loads of Guinness, crazy costume party, alcoholics and ultimate... Mad props to Jim and Liam of the UL Ninja's who hosted us, punk themed team the Vikings and somehow themselves in their house! Even madder props to Dave from Chilli-O who hosted 11 NUTS in his 50m2 apartment-with-two-housemates in Dublin!
About the tourney. We played at some sweet pitches and had clear weather (unbelievable!) so that was all good. We were seeded in a tough pool with Johnny Chimpo (last year's winner), Jerk factory and Skulltimate, but were motivated to go out there and 'sell our skin for a high price'! On the first day we played some tough matches, missing our straight ticket to the quarter finals by losing to Skulltimate, but getting that ticket after all by a win over our lovely hosts UL Ninja's.
With a spot in the quarterfinals, there were many reasons to party! And we did at this 'Freaks and geeks-party'! All my respect to the Irish, I've never seen so many people dressed up for a costume-party. I also have never seen so many men asking random people to feel their butt. We had 'some' pints, danced all evening on a 'stampvolle' dance floor. Again, it pays to be a Nutter, with drunken Irishmen coming up to us and saying: "Whoa, you're the NUTS. I love you guys! Let me go to the cash machine and buy you some tequila!" (Shimbo, who else :) -- red.)
On the second day of games we learned that waking up is hard to do (NUTS vs. Trinity), waking up in the second game then pays off (NUTS vs. Chilli-O) and giving it away (again) hurts (NUTS vs. Skulltimate -- we will be back Skulltimate!).
NUTS finished sixth out of twenty teams, not a bad score at all!
After all, a really sweet tournament which leaves me with only two things to say;
1) Thanks, Nutties. It was great!
2) There is a triangle between Limerick, Dublin and Amsterdam. Who owns the triangle?
