| 18-05-2009 Never Underestimate These Suckers -- Comp Day 3
Yesterday the NUTS played their third competition day, and to use the words of this years Eurovision winner: We fell in love with a fairy tale! How so? Well, because not only did we promote from fifth division to the fourth, we?ve also won all our games in fourth division! That means we've got a running competition record of a 7 game winning streak!! I don't think the NUTS have ever been undefeated for that long in competition!
So this Sunday, despite the horrible weather, Crunch was able to fix some artificial fields at Drieburg and squeeze out the sunny hours!! Heroes of the day were our fearsome squad of: Lisa, Elgin, Katie, Sugar, Fedde, Umbe, Podge, Annelies, Nick, Hilco and a sweet guestplayer, Laura!
First off we played Vertigo who we were able to defeat without too much trouble. They were no match for the quick feet of our Nutty D. We won by 12-2.
Next up was our game against Flying High, who had come down from third division. They brought some experienced players to the field, but we brought our young athletic bodies in against them and were able to secure another victory with our super tight defense and very solid offense!
Our last game of the day was going to be a derby against Oddjob. They'd also won both their games and we knew this was going to be the team to beat today. They had two injured players and therefore more girls then guys on their team, but that hardly showed! They played very solid, fast and well and it was a very tight game indeed! Luckily, we also put in our best game of the day, and after a very competitive very well spirited match, we were able to take the victory with 8-6!!
Maybe NFB shouldn't always put us in the bottom division of the competition, it would seem. Some people just keep underestimating these students, despite our club name..
All in all, it has been a great competition so far, and we have a good chance to win fourth division. Maybe even stay undefeated for the entire season!! Now that would be something : )
See you round the bend people!
Hilco
ps: MVP in my book is Elgin, who made some great timed cuts for the swing, threw some nice deep discs to the endzone and had all his offensive players in the pocket when he was on defense.
| 05-05-2009 Competition Day 2 - promotion!
After pulling out two savage wins in the first competition day, the NUTS put themselves into position of achieving their goal of promotion to the fourth division. Armed with a handful of new players, the NUTS felt good about their chances; however, they knew it would be no easy task with their two toughest opponents standing in the way of achieving fourth division glory.
The NUTS forces were divided up into two main traveling groups to the far end of Holland known as Enschede. One group decided to catch a train to Russia (then realized their mistake), while the other decided to rent a car and road trip it to the competition. All the Nutters made it to the pitches with no problems and were ready to show their skills.
Up first was the toughest match of the day, Force Electro 2. Led by Captain Jack Sparrow's knowledge of the rules, Force Electro played even with the NUTS for majority of the match. Both teams were cutting hard and making it tough for the opponents on the D. However, the NUTS were able to pull away when it mattered, playing from ahead in the final minutes to capture the 14-11 victory! Yarrrr NUTS!
After a nice time in the shade enjoying lekker pasta salad (cheers Elgin!), the NUTS were well rested and well fueled to take on their second opponent of the day Disc Devils Twente 2. The NUTS didn't lose their step during the break and continued right where they left off jumping out to a big lead over the hosting team. Realizing they had to make some adjustments, Disc Devils called a time out to set up some poachy D that really gave the NUTS some trouble. However the NUTS were able to solve the D after a few positions and went on to earn the victory by a score of 13-3 (or something like that...)
So it's on to the fourth division for the NUTS! Big props to the NUTS who were able to make it for the first time this week. All the subs and deep threat (cheers Marc!) really gave the NUTS the boost needed to earn fourth division honors.
