29-09-2008 2nd Day Mixed Competition
Out there in Wageningen again, with some great weather and awesome games like last time! We faced off against:
Oddjob (Crunch 3): In a complete reverse of our previous match, NUTS got ahead with a 5 point lead (6-1) but Oddjob started taking it back. We pulled of the final points though, winning with 8-6. Very tense match indeed!
WAF: Our hosts again. This time they had a smaller squad and seemed better organized than last time we played them. However, experience here made the difference, and we won again. But they made us run for it. 9-1.
B-Frisbee-2?s: The team that demoted to third division. This promised to be our toughest match, and it was. They took the lead early on, but we were able to pull it back to a 3-3 score. After that however, BF2?s got ahead again and we kept trading points more or less, leading to a 6-8 for them (I think). A very hard fought and well spirited game indeed!
Gronical Dizziness: Our last game of the day, like last time. They got up by 2-0 and then we scored 4 in a row, putting us ahead. In our heads though our advantage was way better than it actually was (a mere two point lead) and we lost our focus along the way. GD was able to hold on to theirs and scored the sudden death point. 7-6. This was our closest game of the day, and most spirited, a lot of fun to play.
Thanks to the other teams and NUTS for another great day of mixed competition! Our objective now is to become champion of the third division in two weeks!
MVP: Jaques, who seems to have made a tradition out of catching Callahans at mixed competion. Bonjour Jaques!
Play of the Day: Jesse?s crazy one handed layout score, on a sloppy pass!

Last weekend the NUTS got in two cars and went for a long long drive. The destination was the pretty island of Ile de R? which is about a 12 hour drive from Amsterdam. The NUTS arrived Friday evening, just in time to get our hands on the limited beers.
On Saturday morning we played our first game on grass, as the tide on the beach was still high. The next three games were on the beach though. An idyllic experience on a beautiful beach with the cute white French village in the background. We had a good team there and were able to kick some French butt. We played some really good, tight games. Were unlucky to lose two of those, but nevertheless were very satisfied with our game. We played well and had a good team vibe going on. In the third memorable match of the day, we lost 2-3 to Ah Ouh Puc after playing several extremely long points. This Paris team ended up playing the final on Sunday.
Saturday dinner was a huge sheep roast, with delicious grilled veggies and all-you-can-eat oysters. Afterwards an outdoor party which included French guys dancing on tables in tight blue underwear and a DJ who loved MCing so much he forgot he was doing it in front of a crowd :)
On Sunday we played two games, winning the last and placing 7th of 16 teams. Sunday evening we stayed over, ate the last pizzas on the island and lots of mussles, and did a team penguin hug. We drove back on Monday, another 12 hours of driving. Props to our 4 drivers!
Also props to the R?Mix organisors, they made some mad improvements compared to last year. We'll be back next September!

Sunday September 14th saw the first Dutch Mixed Competition day.
Game 1 Oddjob: It was 5-0 to Oddjob after roughly 18 minutes of play. Ouch. We weren?t gonna let that happen though, and pulled back to 6-5. Unfortunately the final point also went to Crunch: 7-5.
Game 2 Oetsers: We did a heck of a job trading off points, really getting our game on. Unfortunately only to lose on another final (turnover bonanza) point: 6-5.
Game 3 WAF: We only had a 5 minute break before facing the blue menace from Wageningen. Our luck was that their team was very inexperienced. So we were able to win 10-1, despite having played around 80 minutes straight, savage style for the girls without subs.
Game 4 Gronical Dizziness: We got ahead with 2-0 and started trading points from there on out. Eventually though Groningen had the last say, getting back even and scoring the last point for a win: 6-5.
MVP's: Katie, Brit and Stephanie, playing every point in all four games with style, grace and perseverance!
Play of the Day: The mad lay-out Callahan by Jack!!
