13-11-2008 ALV
Our annual General Member's Meeting (ALV) is coming up soon: on the evening of Saturday 22 November.
"Oh, th?t Saturday, but I already have plans for that night," I hear you say. Yes, you sure do, because it's the night of the NUTS anniversary! !! Fortunately the meeting and party are at the same place, so you can come to both!
The point of the ALV is:
- to present the jaarverslag
- to raise a corner of the veil regarding next year's plans
- and last but not least: to get feedback from the members of our beloved club and to hear your ideas
So if you have something you wanna get off your chest, a swell idea for next year, a question, etc.. Saturday the 22nd is when you can tell us all about it.
| 15-10-2008 All out of bubblegum: NUTS win 3rd division
Sunday October 12th was our last Mixed competition day. A nice mixed team composed of four girls (Katie, Stephanie, Sarah and Brit) and five boys (Elgin, Nick, Tim, Jesse W and Hilco) were ready to play our last day. We were very happy we could just ride our bikes to the field, instead of the train. And with an average hours of sleep of three hours (with special thanks to a smoking party of Elgin) we all made it perfectly on time for our first game against WAF 2. We knew this would be a perfect opportunity to try out everything we learned playing as a team. And we did, we sparkled like before on our tight defence and won with a big difference.
Right after this game we had a game off so we chilled on the balcony while watching Chronical Dizziness play Crunch so we could decide on our tactics for the next game. Besides enjoying Hilco's liquorice we could listen to our own Finest Tunes CD. Big thanks to Hilco for collecting two songs from every player and putting these together.
After a good rest, some good observations and an impressive cheer we were definitely ready to confront GD. A very exciting and intense game, and again we made it a winning score.
We knew we were on a winning tour and again after a break and a good warming up provided by Tim we were ready, steady, steaming hot and in a dangerous killing mode. Also we doubled our forces by the company of Mara, Jack and his friend Stella. Playing our next game against Crunching Oetsers was very exciting and for quite a while the score remained a tie. So the Nuts straightened their killing faces and made some well deserved points. So for the third game this day we could leave our bubblegum in our bags and call it a winner.
Then for the final game that day we had to play Crunch 3. In the meantime the sun started shining, Elgin made some nice pictures, Jack's parents were cheering for us and we were ready to make it a complete winning day. So after some nice running, D's, and bingo's we once again ended the game with a smile on our faces. This made us the champions of the 3rd division!!
After some showers and some groceries we all made it for Nuts HQ, where Hilco and Jesse provided us with a very nice team dinner (wraps int.al. bananas). Joined by Job and listening once again to our Team CD it was a perfect ending for a perfect day playing Ultimate.
| 09-10-2008 Nutters at Right to Play
Although they were off to a late start due to *cough* JESSE *cough* the beginner representatives of the Nuts made it to Wagingen for the Right to Play tournament. (With exception to Hilco who was probably too terrified to face Jesse and Katie's brutally beautiful Frisbee playing). Conditions couldn't have been better. The swirling winds and constant rain made it possible for lots of lay-outs and constant turnovers. Although the fields resembled half of a basketball court in size, or for you Dutch persons a korlfbal court, the never ending points provided a conditioning opportunity for those who participated. Elgin, on a primarily non-NUTS team lost to miniature humans, the future, CHILDREN. Towering at least an entire foot (or one third of a meter for all non-Americans) over each opponent, Elgin's team still had the decency to "let the kids win." As for Katie and Jesse, they remained positive as their winning streak turned to tying which then turned to defeat. The day served as an opportunity to let the beginners see Frisbee at its best in the worst conditions. GO NUTS.
