Discolorful 2011: Learning Indoor

by Sietse
Everybody knows that NUTS owns the outdoor fields in Holland, but indoors, we aren't (yet) such a strong force (no pun intended). However, recent studies and observations show that there is great potential within this team! At saturday morning we (Joram, Lisa, Ruben and Sietse) started our journey to the depths of the oldest city of Belgi?m: Tongeren! After a 2,5 hour drive, mostly talking about Lisa's shitty work, we arrived at the tournaments location. Having only about 15 minutes to change and warm-up (yes we were late), we rushed in and caught up with our teammates (Marieke, Rogier, Jack, Martine and Galen). The first game was hard: we had a team of players of which most didn't have that much indoor experience, and for some it was even their first tournament (ahem?). We really had to adjust to the indoor frisbee style and the environment of the hall and tournament in general. So, the first game was lost, and so was the second, however, throughout these two games we really showed progression. Jack had already told us that the goal of the day wouldn't be to win as much games as possible, but to disturb our opponents as much as possible. And that we did! Slowly but steady, the team grew out to be a master of disturbance! It even worked out so well, that the third game ended in a tie! In preparation for our final match of the day, we did some awesome games like Twister. Because of this perfect warm-up (nothing stretches your muscles like Twister), we even took the fourth game! Time for some well deserved food. During dinner, conversing about Rogier's strange habits in primary school, it turned out that we even made it to the upper pool (a.k.a. The Pool Of Winners)! A good reason to party. Jack amazed us all with his party spirit, keeping us dancing until the end. Then it was time for some sleep? just a little sleep? Too little sleep! (Not so very) early in the morning we prepared for our first game in the upper pool. It seemed that over night we even got better, and we won the first game. The second one was tough again though, but since we kept progressing as a team, we were able to offer resistance, and ended the game in a tie. The last match was again extremely close, but unfortunately lost after a fair battle. However, placing ourselves for the 5th or 6th position, we still had one game to play to decide our final ranking? and we took it! In general, we grew out to be a pretty good team, placing 5th out of 10 (mostly) indoor experienced teams. So can NUTS play indoor? Yes we can!

Mixed Competition Day 2

Imagine a beautiful sunny day with beautiful, awesome, fresh people who intend to do some damage in the second division of the Dutch Mixed Competition. Picture it? Because that was us, NUTS, yesterday at our home fields in A'dam.

First up were our home boys from Crunch 1. They took the first two points. We then woke up and fought back successfully. 9-6 to NUTS.

Second game was against the BFrisbee2's. Those silly Nijmegen folks failed to use their women and liked hucking to their tall men in the end zone. We struggled a bit in this game with our connections on offense. Regardless, we took the game 9-7.

Then Ultimus Prime. We quickly got ahead here, but needed to keep our minds in the game because they kept breathing down our necks. But yeah, we took that too :) 11-7 to NUTS!

After a bye of 1.5 hours, we tied our shoes back on to play the final game of the day against Gronical Dizziness 1. We knew this was going to be the toughest game of the day and therefore took a lot of time to warm up. The game was mad exciting. We traded points all the way to the end. GD took the game on universe point, 9-8. Alas, but I am not embarrassed about that result at all, because we played well and gave GD a very hard time.

Thanks to fellow NUTS who came out to support us :)
